Problem with wireless network
Can anybody help.My son wanted the internet in his bedroom for xmas, so i went to the local shop and told him what i wanted to do.He told me that all i needed was a wireless broadband router and a wireless lan adapter card.Im now having trouble installing them.
Installed the router downstairs to my pc and connected it to my cable modem and pc like in the instructions. Then fitted the wireless card to the pc upstairs. Now i cant get an internet connection at all.I followed all the instructions carefully and know that the pc upstairs is picking up a signal because it says its weak or low in an icon. But nether pc will connect to the web. One of the instructions was to ping in ms dos to test connections and no packets were lost, so this should mean im connected?. But im not sure where to start now. Please help. ps We are both on Xp |

Hi,
Are you getting a good IP through the cable modem? Log into the router and see if you are getting an IP from your Internet Service Provider. If you are not getting a good IP, was the cable modem hooked directly into the pc before? If so, you might need to clone the MAC address into the router. What wireless router did you buy? Let us know and hope this helps. |

go to my network places, set up a home or small office network, run network setup wizard on both systems. See if that fixes the connection problem. I run a wired router system, but configuration should be the same.

See if both computers can contact the router and then an outside server.
start up command prompt and type in "ping iphere" with iphere being your router's ip (usually 192.168.0.1). Then try pinging an outside server if pinging the router works try "ping 67.19.45.53"

Try This
Hello...
I recently had to configure a couple of these wireless routers with internet conection through cable. First you have to connect to your router with a wired pc. Make sure you get internet conectivity. Once this is achieved type your default router IP address in your browser (usually 192.168.X.X) Depending on your router you are going to have to look for the page where you can clone your MAC address in the router. The MAC address they are looking for is the one in the PC that was connected to the wireless router initially. A good way to get this IP addres is to use from command prompt "ipcofig /all" without the quotes... look for your NIC MAC address, and this is the one you want to use in the router as cloned. After this is done, save changes and try connectivity through your wireless pc now. BTW, don't forget to set up your wireless connection with a proper SSID, with a secure password for your router and to connect to your wireless LAN. If you need help on that, there are some topics talking about this that you can follow. Good luck. |
