laptop with wireless unable to access desktop shared files after hibernation
I've got a thinkpad and desktop connected through a 80211.g wireless router. Signal strength is great all over the house, but there's one big problem. I set up file sharing on both computers (with full sharing and editing privileges) so that in "My Network Places" you have 2 shared folders (1 for each computer). I am able to access each computer's shared folder from the other with no problems, but NOT after I exit into and return from hibernation, suspend, or system standby on the laptop (these are all essentially the same thing but there probably are minor differences as to power consumption). After hibernating the laptop and then logging back on, I am unable to share files. I get an error message telling me I do not have access to that folder! It is not the wireless connection because I am still able to surf the internet on the laptop, just not share files. I just got off the phone with IBM support and they didn't have a clue what to do. They are now "doing research" and trying to come up with a solution. Can anybody here do it quicker?

i have had it happen several times with my wireless notebook and second desktop. most times simply repairing the local area connection or wireless connection (probably renewing the lan ip mostly) seems to work. its not real convenient but its all i've come up with so far.
good luck |

i have the same problem...what is happening is the IP address is being dropped by the AP (not sure why or how)
all you have to do is go into the command prompt and type: ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew pick up the new IP address and off you go. |

Have you tried setting a static IP and disabling DHCP?

Thanks for the replies. I don't really know much about how IP addresses work or what DHCP is, but I guess that's one more thing I'll get to learn about in dealing with this.
The problem I talked about in my post is very erratic, as right now I am able to access the other computer's files no problem, and I haven't made any changes since my first post. Oh well. |
