Cable internet connection
I'm very computer stupid. I live in an apartment building that shares the same cable provider. We are cable internet ready. I have cable TV in my room. I simply want to know how to connect to the internet. I have a splitter, so I can use one cable to hook cable TV to my TV and I can use the other side of the splitter to connect it to my tower of my computer. I don't know how to hook it to my tower. I have a Dell that I bought Sept 03, so it's fairly new. Can anyone help me? I called the company that I will be receiving service through and they said something about a network card. Is that all I need or am I supposed to attach the tower to the wall connection via a cable wire. Please let me know. Thank you.

You need the network card and you need a modem which is either provided by the cable company and you pay a rental fee, or you have to purchase one. The cable goes from the wall jack to the cable modem, then using an RJ45 patch cable (looks like a phone cable, but larger, 8 wires instead of 4) you go from the cable modem to the network card.

You also need to make sure your splitter is high bandwidth - 1 GHz or higher. El cheapo splitters don't cut it.
