Hey All,
I need some advice on my problem. I have two devices that i'd like to connect to one ethernet cable (Xbox and ReplayTV) The ReplayTV only uses the connection once a day at 5am so the two devices will never use the connection at the same time. Is there anyway to connect both devices with out using a router or switch? Think cheap. Thanks! |

You can't really get any cheaper then a simple hub -- which would do the job for about 25$... there isn't really a Y-Splitter for Cat5/RJ 45 -- but if there were it'd be fairly expensive, an inline coupler runs about 12$ in itself.

Newegg.com has some cheap switches. Myself I prefer a switch over a hub for most uses.
Some of the ones at Newegg are as low as 12 dollars plus about 5 shipping. It seems to me a cheap one will do for your purposes

actually in my old dorm room they did have y splitters for RJ-45, you can find them, but you will run into bandwidth problems. and it isnt really true networking either.
