"limited or no connection"

guys...this message is on my dads labtop....i have tried both a wireless usb devise and connecting through a ethernet devise. It will say "limited or no connectivity"

the IP address is also messed up. It is 169.254.174.28??

i know thats wrong so do you guys have any suggestions...i have tried everything i know of but dont know how this IP got there or what to do??

please help guys thank you

That is an auto IP assignment because it can't find a DHCP server.

More details, please, be very specific. What are you trying to connect the laptop to? A router?

The problem could be one or more of a lot of things.

yes labtop trough a linkys router...

He uses this for a business labtop....at work he uses dsl and can connect there each and every night....but for the past couple of weeks he has not be able to connect at MY house which uses cable modem...but he always has been...

nvm i got it...i just used a different wireless adapter....and it connected without a problem...but i still do not know what the problem was....
