wierd school network problem

alright, my friend just called me from school. the school internet went down earlier today, but it came back up about an hour later. everyone on her floor has working internet now, except for her. she is getting the 169.254.xxx.xxx address. i have done everything i can think of.

system restore didn't work (fails, says it can't restore the system)
virus and spyware scans
updated the lan driver

system specs:
p4 2.8c
asus p4p800e-deluxe using onboard lan
1gb corsair ram
windows xp pro

the school can't come and take a look at it till next tues, so she doesn't want to be down that long. i am about 200 miles away, and without loking at it, i have exhausted all of my ideas. your advice is much appreciated
