What are you trying to do with the hub exactly?
Share an internet connection - to do this you can either have one server machine connected to the internet that shares the connection with all the computers connected to the hub. The other way to share an internet connection is the use a router - this is basically a hub (well a switch) that shares the internet connection with the internet. Most routers come with 4 ports to connect computers, and you can connect switches/hubs to these to get more connectivity. I think it might also work if you plug the modem into the uplink port of the hub, but only on modems with NAT, overwise you need another method. Are you sure you have a hub? If it is a router then it would be much easier to share the connection, although if you have a switch (like a hub just more powerful) you also need a method mentioned above. |

I believe its a hub it says 10Base-T 5-Port Hub on it. I have cable internet, I connected the ethernet cable from my cable modem to the first port on the hub, and connected the ethernet cable from my desktop Lan card to the second port, and the ethernet cable from my laptops lan to the third port.....it does have a switch on the back thats says uplink and normal which is set to uplink.................

Your ISP is probably only giving you one IP address, hence only one machine can go on the net. You either need to contact them about a second IP address or consider ditching the hub in favour of a router..... I would go with the router.
