Networking 2 computers and 1 laptop....

I have 2 computers and just received a laptop as a little gift..

Computer 1 is in the living room, Computer 2 is in my fathers...

Computer 1 cannot connect to any network what so ever. And only until i had to reformat comp 1 i can't connect to the network....i used to before.

I run zone alarm on Comp 1 and nothing on Comp 2, both computers run on different network cards, also i'm using a linksys router with 2 ethernet cables running through...i don't have netbeui installed as i can't find the protocol to install it...

both computers see each other but when i click a folder it hangs and when it finally stops hanging i double click the folder and it hangs again..which then leads to a message saying that i do not have permission to view the contents of this folder...

also the laptop works perfectly well with computer 2...but comp 1 and comp 2 just don't seem to like each other

i've been searching frantically for a remedy to this >_<

1. What exact version of Windows on all machines, please? If XP, please state Home or Pro, and whether you have run the networking wizard, and exactly what choices you made when you did it - and whether SP2 is installed or not.

2. Zone Alarm can and will block filesharing over TCP/IP. Disable it till you get this solved.

3. How to install NetBEUI on XP:

Did you choose "other" - then "this computer is connected directly to the Internet" - then disable the firewall?
