Unhappy Network machines conflicting?

PC 1: Windows XP home (Named: XP1)
PC 2: Windows XP home (Named: XP2)

Router Linksys WAG54G (used Netgear too with same results).

Hi there,

I'm stuggling to share resources/printers on my network using my Linksys router, both computers use Windows XP home and are set up using the Windows XP network setup wizard... both of which belong to 'MSHOME'.

Both computers however can share the internet connection from the router.

I've experienced the same problem when using my old Netgear router and indeed with just a simple crossover cable.

The following error on XP1 is produced when going through 'View workgroup computers':

Quote:
MsHome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is currently unavailable.
Right now though, i'm able to see both XP1 and XP2 with the laptop, normally I see the error messages above. However, when attempting to access XP1 from XP2 i get:

Quote:
\\Xp1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.
Both C drives are shared for testing purposes. Also the Windows firewall is disabled on both machines.

Is there a way around this, prehaps some protocols are disabled?

It could be the XP firewall causing problems..

Angry

The changing of settings had no effect on the problem .
As for the Windows Firewall - as stated in my first post, it's already disabled

sounds like you made the wrong choices when you ran the wizard.
first choice should have been (other)
and the second one should have been (connects through a lan or hub)

SP2 isn't installed now no however, they were both previously running SP2 and no it made no difference.

I will attempt to try the different network settings through the wizard.
