Ok, here's what hapened
I have a comcast broadband internet connection that is shared by two computers through a Netgear FR114P firewall print server. After i cleaned all of the spyware off of my windows computer (running XP PRO) and restarted it, the network connection has "little or no connectivity". i restarted the cable modem and the router, tried different wires, gave it a few gentle taps, but it still wont work. the second machine on the network (from which i am typing from) is a pentium 2 running redhat linux, and it connects with no problem. what can i do? EDIT: when i try to repair the connection,it says that cannot renew the ip adress Last edited by gwsmyda; 02-04-2005 at 04:01 PM. |

I never had that problem before. First thing I would do is tinker with the router setting, makes sure it doesn't have any mac address filters on. Btw what program did you use to clean your PC up?

if it means anything, i tried bypassing the router and connecting the computer directly to the cable modem. but no luck

Step through the network setting again on the PC... They may have been hijacked by something the Ad-aware removed...You may need to start over with the NIC drivers and build your way up.

I agree. double check your network connection settings first and make sure that they are correct. power cycle the modem and computer (turn off and unplug computer, turn off and unplug cable modem, unplug wire from cable modem to computer, turn on modem and wait for the link lights to stabilize depending on modem, plug wire to computer and turn on computer).
"ping" a website from the command prompt. click start-> run-> type "command". At the prompt type "ping www.yahoo.com" or any site. Post here again what happened.
