trouble addding access point to wireless network
I'm having trouble getting my new access point connected to my network (all netgear products, .11g). i read the faq and did the following checks:
SSID same Channel same WEP same here is the wireless setup: [PC with PCI card] + [PC with Access point] ------> router (wired to modem)------> internet the pci card is assigned an ip by the router. the access point is not assigned anything. it shows up as 0.0.0.0 I wired the access point to the router and it assigned it an IP. when I try to do it wirelessly, it does not. what else can i check? i've been to practicallynetworked.com and looked around, but i didn't see anything there. |

Exactly what are you trying to do? What do you need an access point for when you have a wireless router already?

i have 2 modded xboxes and one laptop with a regular 10/100 network card. I want to be able to transfer files to/from all of them from my desktop. i also want to be able to play system link games on the xboxes.
when i connect them to the router with an ethernet cable, they are assigned an IP and i can ftp them with no problems. everything works great. but it's not practical for me to have 4 machines wired in the same room. when i try to use an access point, the router doesn't assign them an ip. the router is connected to the cable modem. i don't want to run coax or cat5 under the carpet and through the walls if you know what i mean. wireless would be so perfect if i could just get it all working. |

my IT friend told me that i'm going about this all wrong. he said i need a wireless ethernet bridge for each component. this will allow me to connect to the router. does that sound right?
