Help! Problem with a service and can't see other computers
Hey guys,
We have two computers in our house, mine and my mum's computer and they are both connected via Cat5 patch cables to a router/modem combo unit. When I got to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>My Network Places>View workgroup computers, it takes a few moments like it's thinking and then says that I do not have permission to view other workgroup computers. I can see my mum's computer when I surf the router but I can't see it from my computer. I have checked that both computers are in the same workgroup. I also have a problem with Terminal Services. How do I set it up so that I can see my mum's computer and maybe even send messages to it using the service? TIA...

Thanks bailey
Sorry to sound so illiterate but how do I do that?Oh and for the Terminal Services thing, I'm accessing it by going to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Sevices and then I'm double-clicking on Terminal Services, this brings up the box that displays the settings of it, this isn't right compared to how it looks in school. In school, there is a shortcut to Terminal Services in Administrative Tools and double-clicking it brings up the actual program and shows you who's online and active. What am I doing wrong? UPDATE: It turns out that both computers had not had the Networking Wizard run on them yet. I have done this now but it hasn't resolved my other two problems. They are both sharing a connection, but now I have another problem. My mum's computer has always been getting disconnected from AOL intermittently. Now that I have run the Networking Wizard on both computers and now have both computers sharing, it does the same thing to mine and I get disconnected. How do I undo what the wizard has done? UPDATE2: I re-ran the Networking Wizard on my mum's computer and this time turned off file sharing. I also re-ran it on my computer and did the same thing, but I didn't have the option to turn file sharing off, I just did the same as I did last time. I assumed this would resolve the intermittent disconnections from AOL, but it hasn't. What do I do? UPDATE3: Just realised that I've contradicted what I want to do. If I want to see my mum's computer over the network I need to be sharing her IP, in other words sharing her connection, right? But that means I get her intermittent disconnections from AOL. At this moment, I'm the only one connected, my mum's computer is switched off and I haven't been disconnected from AOL yet, so it's only when she's active when I am, but still even when her computer is on, it's still an annoyance. So I need to have connection sharing turned off so I can just connect through the router by having my own unique IP given to me by my DHCP server from AOL. The only way I can set everything back to the way it was before I decided I wanted to share my mum's connection that I can actually see, is to physically reset the whole thing. Switch both computers off, disconnect them and the router and switch the router off. Then set everything back up, and once done, leave the internet connection sharing thing off, leave the Wizards alone. This then means I can't use Terminal Services because I'm no longer sharing. I don't even know how to use Terminal Services properly anyway so it might be best to start an alternative thread concerning it. I've now learned 1 thing through this, AOL doesn't like sharing that much. Alternatively, if somebody knows of a way of actually deleting the internet connection sharing settings and undoing what the wizard has done so I don't have to go through a physical reset, it is really appreciated

Ok, I did the physical reset like I stated in my last post. I'm not having any problems yet. I have my mum connected at the moment as I am and I've had no disconnection from AOL yet. If I do still get problems, which I hope I don't, I will start a fresh thread instead of carrying on with this one, I see that as the best way because it prevents others from having to read through the whole beginning before finally getting down to the relevant situation. Thanks again Bailey for your assistance earlier in this thread
