what happened was
My IE stopped browsing so I tried system restore and it worked again. After 2 days Everytime I go to a website it keeps telling me the PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED. I tried going to system restore and It wont allow me to restore. It always tells me that no Changes were made. I tried sfc /scannow reinstalled TCP/IP reinstalled Winsock reinstalled Network drivers changed NIC reinstalled IE using ie.inf ran chkdsk /r on the recovery console scanned for viruses (none found) scanned for spyware (found 1; not critical) Even did a repair - install of windows Everytime I try to ping a website it always says host not found. I know all the settings I have is correct and I know my Internet connection is fine since Im using a different computer right now on the same network. any more ideas before I reformat? I really dont want to solve this problem by just reformatting. |

What firewall are you using? Have you checked its settings?

Can you ping an IP address on your network (the internet gateway or router or another workstation)? Can you ping 127.0.0.1?

sorry for the late reply. I ended up reformatting the computer (sigh). anyways just to answer your questions, I'm using sygate personal firewall.
and If I'm in a network I can ping all the computers but not websites. I know I dont have a problem right now since I reformatted, but I dont want to reformat my PC everytime I encounter that problem. Any ideas? ![]() _________________ hristo1976: Are u using XP? if you are, try: look for the folder windows/inf/ and look for ie.inf. (show hidden files at the option). Right click then click install. (note: you must have your XP cd) try system restore. start ->programs->accessories->systemtools-> system restore or Last edited by SCRYED; 02-09-2005 at 12:33 AM. What happens when you turn off the firewall? I had a similar problem (though it was intermittant) and turning off the firewall would allow me to access the web. Ultimantely I got rid of that firewall.
