Help with file/printer sharing - Netgear DG834G
Ok...heres my problem. Ive got One PC Wired to the router through a NIC and ive got a lappy connected to the router through a Netgear WG511 wirelss card.
I can share the broadband (which is pipex incase it matters) perfectly but i cant share files and printers?? This is very stange because at one point I could print from the laptop (the printer is a HP Officejet 4110 all-in-one and is connected to the PC via USB) Both the PC and Laptop are reported to be on 'MSHOME' workgroup in the porperties of My Computer. Another strange thing is that the names of the PC and laptop are being picked up incorrrectly by the router, The PC seems to have its old name (MOORE) instead of just 'PC' which is shown in the My computer > Computer Name tab. The Laptops name is shown as 'Unknown' in the routers 'Attached Devices' page whereas its shown as 'Laptop' in the My computer > Computer Name tab. I am Using windows to control the Wirelsscard settings instead of the provided software but whatever software i use there is no difference in file/printersharing. Both machines are using XP SP2 and the windows firewall on both is Off. There is a firewall on the PC that i will mess with now but i dont think that is the problem. From 'My Network Places' on the laptop i can click 'View workgroup computers' and i always get this error... ' Mshome is not accessible. You minght not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available' Thats about all the info i can thinbk of putting down right now but if you need to know something just ask me and ill post back ASAP. Cheers Nathan |
