usb to ethernet
Hi all. this question may be better answered form someone here in the uk ??????????
All it is , is my broadband connection is with bt , and it connects through a modem via the telephone line , then through usb. Now can this be reconfigured via the ethernet port on the back , and would the connection be better ?????? the modem only has a standard phone socket and 1 usb port many thanks all !!

This means you have a USB BB modem.
You will need to change to a ethernet modem (which is more stable) or better still, a ethernet modem + wired/wireless router. This will allow you to share your BB connection in the future if thats needed.

Cheers. So its easy enough then ??? do you recommend any ethernet modems , or will i have to get a bt one ????????

Most people recommend main brands like Linksys or D-Link.
Over here, its common to sell a "solution" bundle such as modem+router+wireless card. Ask the people in the shops, they be more than happy to sell you a solution I'm sure |

Cheers fella. ive gone for a netgear one !! it has 4 ethernet ports and a firewall. the only other one in the shop i went was a dlink , but the single pc one with no firewall.

No experience with Netgear but the specs looks fine. A combo unit with modem and router.
If you need wireless in the future, you can still add a access point to one of the ports. |

Excellent. Right , thanks very much for your time redbaron_snoopy, it is very much appreciated . Hopefully ill have a better stable connection than my current usb one.

red, just to let you know , got this set up in 5 mins , then binned off the usb modem. workin like a dream mate .
