How to extend my network
I have a Dlink 614+ in one section of the house.
+ + + In another section, I have a cable that connects my PC to the switch. I also have a notebook w/ a wireless card. The setup works fine, but I want more switched ports AND more wireless range in my section of the house. Can I get another 614+, or 624, connect the uplink port to the cable that's currently connected to my PC, and extend my wireless and wired network that way? I know that I'd have to move to fixed IP addresses, and perhaps a different channel for the 802.11. Thanks. |

yes uplinking to another switch will work fine
fast eathernet cable can run to a max length of 100 meters, unless you have a very large house, that should be plenty. |

Thanks for the response. What I don't understand is how NAT can work when cascaded. I don't see an option to disable NAT on the router. I assume that I only want the upstream rounter (which is connected to the cable modem) doing NAT.

you do not connect a second router, just one router at the modem and a switch with more ports and maybe a acess point or repeater
