What makes you believe that you are behind either one?

I'm not familiar w/ SongSpy, but from what their web page says, you'll need port 7007 open.
How specifically do you connect to the Internet? Do you have more than one computer accessing this Internet connection? What operating system are you running? |

Ah, OK... that tells me that you're having problems with DNS (Domain Name Service).
I don't know if your IP address is static or dynamic, but either way open a Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all. That will show your IP address and DNS servers. Make sure you're getting the correct DNS servers per your provider. If that all looks OK and you are able to ping addresses on the Internet but still are not able to get to web pages by name, then they are having DNS trouble. As for your SongSpy trouble, I don't know if DNS problems would cause SongSpy to think it was behind a firewall but it's possible. The only real way to find out if you're being routed through a proxy or having ports filtered is to contact your ISP. You may be able to make an educated guess by doing a tracert to a server out on the Internet and noting each hop's name and address. If one of the hops has a host name like "proxy.someisp.com" or "gw-1.someisp.com" or "gate.someisp.com", you could formulate a theory that those are proxys of some sort. If they are firewalling, you most likely won't be able to tell by the host names unless they do something like give their firewall a host name like "fw1.someisp.com" or something else that would clue you in. It's really a crap shoot doing it that way. |
