Trying to Transfer Some Files
I'm trying to transfer files from a desktop CPU to a notebook by connecting them with an ethernet cable and running XP's Networking Wizard as recommended by glc in a previous post and it isn't working for me.
Both computers have functioning network cards. (I've confirmed this by connecting directly to my router and connecting to the internet.) When I connect the two computers (both network cards are enabled), I get a "local area network cable unplugged" message. When I run the wizards, I am unable to get the computers to "communicate." What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. -B |

To connect them directly to each other, you need a Cross Over cable. Looks like a regular ethernet cable but is wired differently inside. If you have a router already and both machines have nic's, just set up a home network and transfer the files that way.

Thanks, PR. It was driving me crazy! I couldn't understand why it wouldn't work. I'll try the router route, now. Just thought I could do it quicker by a direct connection. Thanks, again.
