file transfer
Hi Gang! I could use a little insight on how to transfer files from an older pc running 98 to a pc w/ xp. Can I use a USB cable to connect them? Then what?
Any help would appreciated. THANKS, SPM |

Couple of ways to do this. The method with the fastest transfer speed involves removing the hard drive from the 98 machine and installing it as a slave (jumpered as CS) in the XP machine. Then simply access the 98 files and move/copy them where you want to.
Another method is to use a Crossover cable. Both machines will need network cards (NIC's) to allow the connection. Then just set up a Network and set the file Sharing feature of the files you want to move. A third method is to use a USB drive to collect the data from the 98 machine and move them to the XP. Different sizes are available. 64Mb, 128Mb, 256Mb....all the way to 1Gb. You'll need drivers for the USB drive to be recognized on the 98 machine.
