New Router (possibly) and maybe some new wireless cards
Well our regular 802.11b connection isnt cutting it down the basement. The computer im on now has only a dell internal wireless card, and its about the worst possible signal imaginable--it barely gets 80% strength right next to the router, and down here the internet is on and off. Im either thinking of replacing the whole router if i can find a cheap deal (they often have them for pretty cheap--20-40$ for a nicer wireless G. Im a little confused about different options though. i dont think we can replace ALL the wireless cards, so we'd need something compatible with regular 802.11b cards, but id like something faster that would benefit the two new cards we would buy. The ones i would replace would be a laptop card for this to replace the internal, and a new one for my linux box, so i could put the old one in my linux box. IF this would all be too expensive, i would keep the same router, and probably move my wireless card from my windows pc to this computer (my pc has an adapter that allows a wireless laptop card to work in a PCI slot), then buy two new desktop ones, as this would probably be cheaper. im just looking for advice for either of these two options, or maybe just a new laptop card for this computer and a new PCI for my windows box. Basacilly i need advice for what cards to buy in terms of ones that would get the best signal with my current router, or what type of better cheap new router to buy and what cards to go with it. id most likely want d-link for the router or netgear, not linksys as i have had problems with theirs. my current one is microsoft.

Here's a good deal on a wireless G router from D-link. I just got one for a customer. $29 after rebate and no freight. I'd recommend the G products over your B devices. Something else to consider would be a signal boosting antennae. Lots of options in that area.
