Connection 2 pcs (but they are not networked)
I have 2 PC sharing mouse, keyboard and monitor but they are not networked. One runs XP Home and the other Linux (Mandrake). The XP box is connected onto the Internet via a cable connection (using the cable connection of the modem) and I would like to connect the Linux box using the available network plug of the modem. Would this setup work properly? Thanks JC |

No, you can only pull one IP address from the cable modem. You need a router.

Thanks GLC, I was thinking to buy this one:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=37451 Do you think that router and Linux PC can also have compatibility problem? If not, do I just need this Router + 2 cables? Thanks JC

A router is a router. The only compatibility issue is your cable modem must have an Ethernet output. If you set the Linux PC to obtain its IP address using DHCP, that's all you need - you can even assign it a static IP if you wish.
