Connection 2 pcs (but they are not networked)

I have 2 PC sharing mouse, keyboard and monitor but they are not networked. One runs XP Home and the other Linux (Mandrake). The XP box is connected onto the Internet via a cable connection (using the cable connection of the modem) and I would like to connect the Linux box using the available network plug of the modem. Would this setup work properly?

Thanks
JC

No, you can only pull one IP address from the cable modem. You need a router.

Thanks GLC, I was thinking to buy this one:

Do you think that router and Linux PC can also have compatibility problem?

If not, do I just need this Router + 2 cables?

Thanks
JC

A router is a router. The only compatibility issue is your cable modem must have an Ethernet output. If you set the Linux PC to obtain its IP address using DHCP, that's all you need - you can even assign it a static IP if you wish.
