Workgroup broken with added routers
Hey everyone:
I've got a network of about 70 PC's here, all on the same workgroup. We added a couple of wireless routers to add wireless access around the building. In one room, we were short on connections, so we plugged the router into the connection, and then plugged the three PCs in there into the wired connections on the back of the router. All computers on the network still have the same workgroup name, but now the two are separated from each other; the three computers down here have their own workgroup, and everyone else not on this router has their own, and they can't see each other. Is there any way to fix this with what we have? Should we have gotten "wireless access points" instead? Thanks Nick |

Sorry, forgot to mention: it's a DLink DI-524 router.

more than 1 router (generally) in a network is, as you are finding out, a PITA.
1st thing to check: Make sure that nothing is plugged into the WAN port of the router, everthing should be plugged into the LAN ports. Long term solution would be to put a small switch in the wireless router's place.

Yep, I'm with mbossman2. A better choice when adding wireless to an existing network is to use Wireless Access Points (WAP). They cost a little more but are much easier to configure with an existing wired network.

Problem solved... I was under the impression you had to use the WAN port. Working fine now. Thanks!
