Hi All,
I can't connect with my new wireless card to an existing and working wireless network... "IE could not open the search page" "the page cannot be displayed" I was given a Netgear MA311 PCI wireless adapter... I downloaded and installed the drivers for it, and installed the card... I choose not to let XP control the wireless adapter. It was recognized, the configuration utility is 'working', and shows link quality/signal strength. I configured the wireless card's 128bit WEP security to match the passphrase generated key of my Netgear MR814 wireless router... (both are 802.11b, I believe.) With the router and my laptop wireless card (Netgear MA521?) I was able to use a passphrase, but I had to manually enter the key in this one's (PCI) config utility. It shows a connection ranging from very good to excellent, but I am unable to access IE... I tried the ftp 127.0.0.1 command in the sticky at the top post by Byte2.0, but recieved an "unknown error", and there was no info on what to do further with that... (btw, this is the same error I get when I run the same command from the laptop, on which I'm writing this, and accessing the net, so I imagine it doesn't really apply to me.) Additional info: netgear config util shows : Data Transmitted =58 , Data REceived = 8384. The XP wireless connection status shows 58 packets sent, and none received.... Why am I recieving data, and where is it going? Who;s sending it? Any tips? I rebooted the computer after configing the utility originally, but still hasn't helped... BTW-Netgear's support page wasn't very helpful.... I feel like they're trying to push me to premium support... ??? Last edited by EDB; 04-27-2005 at 04:01 AM. Reason: other error msg... |

try to Ping
Quote:
Try to ping from your Desktop to the router does it Ping, If yes that theres a link, but if not it seems to be the problem of the wep keys, I think your PCI card is not authenticated with the router, In some cases it shows the strength but it doesnt mean that it is authenticated, you have mentioned that your laptop is working fine with the wireless AP rite, it seems to be an Wep Authentication Problem, just check whether your PCI card supports 128 bit wep authentication. |

working!
Quote:
Here's how: I enabled XP to control the configuration, configured it in XP with the WEP key, and now its surfing away! DOn't know why the netgear config utility wouldn't make it work... Tried entering the code a couple times... Anyhow, I'm glad it's working and thank you for your response! |
