Verizon DSL Problem
The Problem: Internet connection says connected at a speed of 100.00 Mbps but no packets are being received, minimal packets are being sent.
What Happened: Alright so I needed to plug in a monitor into my surge protector. It was full so i un-plugged one of the larger plugs to make room for the new one. At the time i unplugged it i thought it was the printer that i unplugged. I then went back to what i was doing with the monitor. I noticed that my connection had been disconnected but i just ignored it for the time being since i wasn't doing anything on the net. After i finished with the monitor i unplugged it and took it out of the surge protector. I forgot to plug in the plug that i had unplugged. At this point i still didn't know that it was the modem that i unplugged. So i went about trying to troubleshoot what happened to the connection. I checked the ethernet cables and connections and they all seemed alright. It still wasn't working tho. So i then went and reset the router, Lynksys Wireless Acces Point 4-Port switch Router Model # = BEFW1154. Still it didn't work. Then i noticed the lights weren't on in the modem. I finally figured out that i just didn't have it plugged in. So i plugged it in and the connection showed up in the system tray. I went to the ip address you type in to get into the routers setup. What i think i did is i set the router back to factory defaults and I changed something in there. I have verizon DSL and it's always connected. I don't remember what my username or password is because I never actually had to enter that before. If i did, i don't remember it. I'm not really sure where to go from here. I haven't called there tech support yet and i really don't want to. I will if i have to tho. If anyone has Verizon DSL, are there any things that i'm forgetting? I know in the routers settings it has a place for Domain Name and Host Name and i'm not sure if i ever had anything in there or not. There so many other settings also but i don't know how they were configured before. I tried to use the verizon setup disc but it says that my modem has no connection. The connection is in the system tray and it says it's connected at 100.00 Mbps, like i said at the top. So i don't know whats going on. Any help would be appreciated and if you need some more details i'll try and get them for you. I'm at school right now and i want to get this figured out before i go home so i can fix things. Once i go home i'm not going to have a way to get on to the net to check on this thread. Thanks in advance! |

The router is sharing the connection with two pcs and an xbox. They all were having problems. I could however ping the two pcs and also the router. So it seems to me that i just can't get to anything outside the network. I'm not a Network guy tho so i really don't know what i'm talking about...lol.
EDIT: In the router settings there is an area with PPPoE settings or something like that. Right now i don't have PPPoE enabled, should i? Last edited by 04nmr85; 04-28-2005 at 07:21 AM. |

First shut down the computer and unplug power from the modem AND the router. Now plug the modem back in and wait for all the lights to come on. Next plug the router in and wait for all of it's lights to come on, then boot up the computer. See if you have a connection. If not, connect your main computer directly to the cable modem without the router and see if you have a connection. You can hot swap the ethernet cable without a problem. If you do get a connection to the www, concentrate on the router configuration. Check your manual or the online manual to set it up again. To return the router to factory default settings in order to clear something you may have changed, find the small reset button typically on the bottom of the unit and press it with a pen for a few seconds.

This is PPPoE DSL, PR, not a cable modem.
You *must* set the router to PPPoE and enter your username and password. If you don't remember it, there's not much you can do. |
