Question can't find remote server

I have a Diamond Home Network system with two computers (connects through phonelines using Wingate). I recently moved to a new house and now the network does not work. The only difference between the old place and new is that the new house does not have a Cable internet system (so I uninstalled the drivers for the cable network card and removed the card). The problem appears to involve only one of the computers. I reinstalled the Wingate system to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't. When I click on the wingate icon, I get the message "Socket Error: Cannot find remote server". I reinstalled the network on the other computer and the Wingate appears to work fine, however,it cannot'see' the other computer-- because the other computer is having the problems.

I switched the Home network cards to see if I had a bad card-- but both cards work ok in the other computer. I also tried different phone outlets, but it did not help.

Given that the system worked fine at the other place-- would the problem have something to do with the cable modem network no longer being used? What am I missing-- or what should I try?

Win '98
Abit KT7 (latest 4 in 1 drivers)
700 TBird
128 mg ram

Are you just trying to share files and printers, or are you also sharing a dialup modem connection? If all you want to do is share files and printers, uninstall Wingate and add the NetBeui protocol to your network cards. If you are sharing a modem and have 98SE on the machine with a modem, try using ICS or a better proxy instead of Wingate. Wingate is very buggy. I like Winroute Pro, but it's expensive.

Thanks GLC, right now all we want to do is connect the computers so we can play games. Once Road Runner is available in this area, the computers will also share an internet connection. You are right about Wingate being buggy-- I'll try your suggestions.
