Dial-up modem problem

Hey experts!
I have a problem with dial-up modem. It's not recognized by the pc. In the device manager it only says - pci modem and there is a yellow question mark next to it. I tried to reinstall the drivers but it can't find any on the xp cd or win98 cd. (I had win98 before and modem worked fine.) Is it possible that those drivers were on the "modem installation cd/floppy? Since it's a very old pc I don't have such a floppy. Is there a chance I can find them on the internet ?
How can I tell what kind/manufacturer of the modem?
Can I just plug in a different modem pci card from another pc ?
Please help
Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks !

You can try going back into device manager and right clicking on the what is now listed as pci-modem, than go into properties and you may get a bit more info, I'm not sure on that one though but it's wortha shot. If not, open up the PC and visually inspect the modem and see if you can find out by looking at it, and to all your other questions the answer to every one is 'YES'...

You are running XP and old modem was not recognised that's very odd or it must be very very old modem.
I say open your comp and read just like ktkendall said, because for first option you can't get more info as long as you have yellow question mark on it!!!

I just thought that even with the yellow question mark it may at least give the manufacturers name, but of course that wont help to find the correct drivers... You are pretty much going to need to know the make and model to trac down a correct driver...
