my wireless card will recognize the network and show a very good connection, but when I try to connect it tells me there is limited or no connectivity. The encryption is all set up right. Other computers have no problem connecting to the network, but mine won't.

Sounds familar!
I'm having a very similar problem, which prolly has the same cause at root. Anyone wanna kill 2 birds with one stone over here?
![]() I am using a Netgear MR814 wireless Router, and a Netgear MA311 PCI Card. My laptop is using a Netgear MA521 Wireless PCMIA Card, and is able to connect to the net (am using it now to type this.) My computer (OS=2000pro) with the PCI card recognizes the PCI card, can use the utility to adjust security encryption, and shows good quality linkage. It really makes me believe its connected, until I open my web browser. The Netgear PCI Adapter utility shows a lot of data received, while the Windows connection properties shows nothing received. I cannot connect to the internet with Firefox or any other browser. I know in my laptop, I had to disable XP from trying to configure the wireless connection, but don't see the option in 2000. Can anyone give me tips or suggestions based on what I've described? Do you need more info or want to have me test things? I might even be able to get some screen shots up... **I tried ipconfig renew/release, ping. The screen pops up and disappears too fast for me to see results, but still no luck. I think I should try it without encryption, just for a test. (My laptop uses phrase generation for the WEP key, but the PCI has to be manually entered.) Edit: Just disabled the WEP encyrption and was able to surf the web w/o a problem. Will have to try again, with the encryption set up... I'd hate to think it was as simple as me mis-entering the code! Any help out there? Last edited by EDB; 05-10-2005 at 12:02 AM. Reason: more detail... |

Somewhat resolved...
Ok, so I redid the encryption code on the router, and my PCI adapter, and can now surf fine! Yay! But there is another problem I could use your collective help on.
I'm trying to enable Internet Connection Sharing on this computer, so that other computers connected to a hub it is wired to, will be able to go online as well. However, when I click enable ICS in my 2000 Pro computer, it tells me that it cannot do it as there is already a device set at 192.168.0.1 (my wireless netgear MR814 Router!) So is there a way I can change either the router's IP address, or the IP address used to set up the internet connection setting? Any negative ramifications on doing so? Let me know if you need more information... My network is basically DSL ->Wireless Router -> 2wired comps, 1 wireless laptop, 1 wireless PCI desktop. I want to connect: Adapted Desktop ->Hub -> other wired computers (2-4 more.) Apologies to Kamolahy for hijacking your thread!

EDB, just uplink your hub to your router and let the router handle everything. Do not use ICS. Any other questions, please start your own thread.
kamolahy, have you tried right clicking on the wireless connection and selecting Repair? |

Have you tried it without the WEP encryption? When I disabled it it worked, and then when I re-entered the keys it worked... and now its working!
