Ok my friend and I want to have a wireless network between our house. The only problem is that he lives about 1/4 a mile away and I need some suggestions on a PCI or USB wireless card and a antenna . Sadly to say I dont really have to big of a budget.
Thank You. |

1/4 mile is going to be tough without spending big bucks. Here's your best (cheap) shot:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833164110 USB adapters are not going to have antenna jacks, you will need PCI cards, better yet, a wireless bridge in each location. It depends on the existing setup (internet connection method, presence of routers, switches, etc.) for a proper recommendation. Also note that if you are doing this to share an Internet connection, most ISP's don't allow this, if discovered, they will shut your account down. |

I don't have links handy but to get 1/4 of a mile you will probably need a "parabolic antenna".
These work in line of Sight. I can't search here at work, but google them and you can even find some links and how to make cheap ones.
