File Tranferring

My wife wants to transfer some large video files from her desktop to her laptop. She would like to use the available USB port on the front of the desktop to the
USB port on the laptop. My question is this: Will a simple USB cable like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812105706

get the job done or will this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812156002

be the best way to go?

The reason for using the USB is that her ethernet port on the desktop is already in use. It's connected to our wireless router.

Thanks for your help and advice.

assuming the laptop is using wireless, just transfer the files over the network

Thanks for your reply Hobey19. Unfortunately too many things on my mind and I failed to mention that even though the laptop is wireless as well, that is another issue we have with our network, transferring large files is a task that can take several hours instead of minutes. Assuming it doesn't lose connection between the two before a transfer is finished. Which is why she wants to do a direct connection between the two. We have a wireless g network for all the good it seems to do sometimes. Once again a DOH! on my part

does the laptop have an ethernet jack? if so, you can hook it up to the router directly to transfer the files. though i have never used one myself, the second link you posted appears to do exactly what you want, altho i think it would be easier to buy another ethernet and hook it up to the router. if that is not an option, then go with the usb device in the second link

I think your Wife can use a Remote Access solution softwares... for example she can check out RemotePC ...

http://www.remotepc.com

Using that product.. she can control the Laptop itself.. copy files / access files.. any thing.. She will feel as if she is working on the Laptop itself..

Check the website before you try.. out.
