Wireless Network what all do I need.
I am planning on signing up for verizon dsl and with the one year commitment I will get a free wireless router. I planing on going this route because it is cheaper and the area I am moving to you have to rent the cable modem (retarded).
I would like to know besides the router what else would I need. I beleive the answer will be an wireless card. If so what is a good card to purchase. My father still uses my old gateway computer that has windows 98 se on it, can he be hooked up to DSL or is that a lost cause? Thank you for all your help. Jason |

you will need a card for each computer (the gateway should work, too)
find out if the router is B or G, and get that kind of card. netgear, dlink, linksys, all are good brands and are on sale regularly at best buy craig

Here is the features for the router:
Westell Versalink features include: Integrated DSL modem Ability to share your DSL connection with or without wires Built-in 802.11g wireless home networking capabilities Premium firewall So I take it is a G router since it has a built-in 802.11g wireless home networking capabilites. I know it is not the best but it is free with a year commitment for only 29.99 a month. Not a bad deal. Thank you all again |

I recommend you put at least one wired computer on it. Only use wireless where running cables is not feasible or desired. 98SE will run wireless fine if you assign that one a static local IP. Just don't use USB adapters, those can be a headache, especially in 98SE. Use PCI.
