IP Error... help needed
I just built a system this morning, and it used onboard 10/100 LAN. According to Windows XP, the drivers and the device are working. Yet, the IP address is messed up. When I check the IP address, it's all 0s. I tried refreshing with "ipconfig /refresh" and it says access denied. I even rebooted and ran in safe mode under administer and tried, and it still gave me the same results. When I try to release the IP address, it says it has already been released. I'm confused as to what to do... this is a fresh Windows XP install. I tried deleting the device from the device manager, then reinstalling the device, nothing. I tried multiple times to use Windows XP's network setup wizard, and nothing.
The computer is connected through a router, and it is set to automatically recieve the IP address. Anyone know what's going on, and what to do to correct it? |

Just in case something was over looked, is the router set to serve IPs via DHCP or is that turned off like in mine.
Also, you are using a standard network cable from the Router to the onboard NIC correct? not a cross over cable. If all that checks out, might try setting a static Ip on the nic for a test, like 192.168.1.10, with a default gateway 192.168.1.1 and primary DSN 192.168.1.1, of course these numbers assume you are on a linksys router. Since it is a fresh install of win XP, it should not be virus or spyware related.

I ended up pulling the NIC card out of my pc and putting it in, and as soon as I booted up it loaded and the internet worked perfectly. I believe it's just a piece of **** 3rd rate onboard NIC, so I'm not even going to mess with it. NIC cards are only 10 dollars anyway.

With onboard nics, it's always best to look on the motherboard manufacturer's site for the latest drivers.
