Getting a DSL modem to communicate with A Router.
I am new to Networking as you will be able to tell by this post. I have Verizon and use thier Westell 327W. I have it hooked up to computer # 1 and it works fine. The problem I am having is getting Computer # 2 using a Linksys BEFW11s4 router configured to where it will communicate with Computer # 1. Should someone offer me help with this problem. Please speak to me in as a newbie and not as a geek. I am getting on in years and have to have a picture drawn for me to follow. I will greatly appreciate any assistance any one can give me. Thanks, Tom

what your gonna want to do is unplug the power cable from the router and the dsl modem. plug the ethernet cable from the dsl modem into the router internet or wan port. then plug pc#1 and pc#2 into 2 of 4 port ports on the back of the router. plug your modem in first then plug your router power cable in. make sure you have the router configured to what your internet service provider requires, most likely that will be PPPoe. you will have to log into the router to configure it. you can log in by typing this ip address into the address bar of your web browser: 192.168.1.1, default password is admin.
hope this helps

The 327W is a router. In order to use your own router, you have to switch the Westell over to "bridge" mode, where it simply passes things through without doing your PPPoE login or doing any network address translation - in other words, act only as a modem. You would do this by logging into the Westell's admin interface when the computer is connected directly to it. Then you can connect the output of the Westell to the WAN input of your Linksys, connect all computers to the Linksys, and configure the Linksys for PPPoE (putting your login and password into it).
