Welcome to PCMECH.
Sorry but I am going to throw allot of info at you, as I am at work and have to be quick. Here is a simple test to get started to see if the problem is on your side. Goto the ms dos prompt inside windows. Start > Run Command or Start > Run > cmd depending on your version of windows. type in ftp 127.0.0.1 Enter What you are looking for is the error message you get back. If you get a Socket 0, Socket 10047, or Socket 10093 then you have a damaged winsock and you will not be able to surf pages on the INTERNET Also, there are other ways to get info weather or not you have a damaged winsock. connected but can't surf, pulling IP from your ISP. If you can ping IP but not Host, Example from command prompt ping 216.239.41.104 and you get your replys ping www.google.com gives you an error like unknown host. IF both of those are true and you try an FTP command you will most likely get a socket 10047 which means you will not be able to surf, until it is repaired. There is a program I recommend for fixing Winsock damage, Last time I checked it was at http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/WinsockXPFix.exe , but I can not verify that while I am at work. Sorry if I overloaded you, I cut and paste from another thread and filtered out parts that pertain to routers. UPDATED***Sync no surf, can't connect to your Router? simple test

Not winsock
Hi, tried the above advice and when I typed in ftp 127.0.0.1 it returned as "connect:10061". I pinged the above address and got replies, however when i pinged other addresses i got request timed out. The system is running win98 SE, the message displayed is page cannot be found, as if it didnt exist. I know it does I am running it off my laptop.
Thanks |

IE Problem I think
Thanks for the link, downloaded and ran it, however the problem still existed. I then ran spybot and went to update it and it connected no problem so figured it was an IE problem. I have loaded the firefox browser and it works fine so at least I can get back on the net.
Thanks for your help
