Neighbour Stealing WiFi?
My flatemate has left for the summer and has taken his wireless laptop with him. I noticed that the LED for wireless activity was still flashing away. So i'm not sure if this is something that just always happens or it means someone else is using my connection. I've enabled as much security as my router will offer so I don't know how someone could still be accessing it?
Is there any way of checking if anyone is using? I tried looking at the incoming and outgoing logs, but all these numbers made no sense to me.

I belive that by setting the mac address filtering it should prevent anyone but his laptop from getting into it.

Why don't you just turn off the wireless section till he gets back?

I've set up the MAC address for his laptop so that should be ok. I WILL turn off WiFi til he gets back, but I just want to make sure that this is sorted before then (if there IS a problem!). If someone IS using my connection I want to stop it as I have a bandwidth limit at the moment.

The WLAN light on my router flashes just to show that the wireless connection is activated and working. It doesn't mean it's being used though.

all I had to do is look at the title. How dare your WIFI tell it to give your neighbor back. anyways read the book and see if the light means it is being used or whatever then you will know for sure.

or disable SSID broadcasting. But that is probably the samething as turning off wireless alltogether.

No, if anyone knows your SSID they can still connect.
