wireless link on my home network
Hi I have 3 computers linked on a home network set up using XP Pro networking wizard. They are hard wired to a D-Link DI-624 wireless router.
I have a 4th computer connected to the D-Link router via wireless connection. I ran the home network wizard on that machine as well but cannot get it linked into my home network. The network wizard doesn't see the wireless link as a netwrok connection. If I driect connect the machine I can add it. But over the wireless link it won't work. Any suggestions? JB |

I had the same problem. What worked for me was, in the network setup wizard when it says there are no available devices or whatever. There is a box that says click to ignore or something similar. Put a check in there, then just type in your workgroup and finish it up. Then when you try to access the other computers on your network it should let you. I did for me.

Actually XP also has a WIRELESS network wizard. Try running that.

Azscary: I actually tried the wireless network wizard, but that wizard just sets up the access between the PC and wireless router. I'm having a little trouble with that as well. D-Link's application and XPs application seem to be at odds. This is also a development since turning up SP2. But that is another thread. Thanks for the replies! JB |

Hi Zyfer. Yes, it's actually a wireless router, with ports for direct (hard wired) connects. I am not aware of any features that need to be enabled to allow thje direct and wireless ports to "see" each other, but I will check.

I followed the suggestion Justin made to check the box to ignore inactive devices. In this case it was the onboard LAN port which was not connected. Once checked XP opts to use the "unknown internet connection" which was active. In my case the unknown connection was the wireless link to the router. Finished the wizard and everything works fine. Thanks everybody.

Make sure you have file and print sharing allowed in the XP firewall exceptions.
