Noob LAN Question

Hi sorry -- this is a stupid question. I don't know anything about WAN/LAN'ing -- and just decided to build a custom rig. Do I need a LAN card or will some mobo's/etc allow me to use a cable modem without? I'm assuming I do?

A lot of motherboards these days have integrated Ethernet, so you won't need a separate card. What brand and model mobo are you getting?
