Netgear router anyone?
Hey folks, any of you have a netgear router RT311/314 in particular?
They had a f/w update v3.25, that crapped out my router, just wanted to give you the heads up to keep a serial cable handy. Am sitting and painstaking using xmodem to a known good version. Reminds me of my days with diallup .. 20 min just for the firmware, then have to sit with the rom. |

Statica,
I have the RT311. Last time I updated firmware was to fix some problems I had when setting up a Half-Life server. Works great now, uptime of about 4 months. If it 'aint broke, I'm not gonna fix it.

So you say you downloaded an update for the router firmware and it caused a crash? Did this occur when updating the software? Have you contacted NetWare? I am planning on installing a RT 311 this weekend. How was the system working before the update and what problems is the update supposed to fix? Please post the filename that caused your crash. I will decide if I should avoid it completely.

The RT311 is great, my last firmware, stable was 3.24, and its a workhorse, had no problems at all. I did a firmware upgrade to 3.25, and I lose connectivity AFTER I do the update (cant connect to 192.168.0.1), and couldnt restore it other than with the serial cable. I downgraded to 3.24 and all is well again. Yeah I contacted Netgear and they will address the issue.
It is possible that you wont have the issue, if you have a serial cable handy by all means give it a try, if u want I can post the method to restore with 3.24 using hyperterminal & serial cable. Again, version 3.24 is great, and stable and has no bugs .. I just like to be on the bloody bleeding edge and get bled sometimes ![]() Cheers. |

Yes by all means please post the procedure to restore. This would be valuable info. in case of problems. And thanks for the warning.

Hello
I'm having the exact same problem you're having. I tried upgrading to 3.25, and got the same symptoms. I don't know where to find the older 3.24 firmware on the internet, because Netgear only has 3.25 on their website. I have a serial cable, but I'm not experienced in the ways of using Hyperterminal. I got it to the screen where it says "Press ENTER to continue", but when I press enter, nothing happens. Could anybody please tell me if there's a setting I need to change in order for the router to accept my hitting of the enter key? Thank you, Geron Bindseil |

I've got the RT311 and never had a problem with it. Never tried a f/w update though.
