Winsock error
Changed from the Diamond Homefree phoneline network to a regular LAN-- hub, two nic's. After I uninstalled the Homefree and installed the LAN, both computers had Winsock errors- a regular install of Windows does not fix the problem. They 'see' each other ok, both show up in Network Neighborhood and files can easily be exchanged. However, one computer cannot 'see' the other computer on LAN computer games. I fixed one computer by doing a clean format and install. The other computer cannot even start a network or LAN game- error messages include "cannot open UDP socket" and "winsock error". Question-- can this be fixed without a clean format and install of Windows? Or what is causing this problem.

Did you uninstall the Wingate server and client software from all machines? If not, do that. Still no good, remove all networking components from all machines and rebuild them. You shouldn't have to reinstall Windows.
