a cross over cable is a cable which alows you to connect two computer via a network. It looks smaller then a CAT5 cable but kinda looks the same.

Actually, the two computers are the "network" when you use a crossover cable between them.

It's the same size as a CAT5 cable but the RJ45 connectors are wired differently.

yep, that will do it, but unless you plan on buying other items, the shipping may run more than the cable will cost.
I would suggest that you go to a local computer shop and have then make one up for you, or just take a short cable and have one end replaced as a crossover cable.or if you can , go to any store like best buy, staples ect and buy one there.

Like Bailey said. If you can get it locally, that would be best instead of ordering it. Even Radio Shack would have them as well as the ones Bailey mentioned. Just make sure it says "Crossover Cable" and you will be fine.

Even with the shipping, it's cheaper to buy it from Newegg. Retail markup on network cables is outrageous. That cable for $2 something and $5 shipping will be 15 bucks in the store.

thr reason I suggested that, the local store here will do that for free,no cost at all, but then this is a small farming community too, not a place that a computer person will get rich.

yes, rj45 is the name if the connector that is on the ends of the cables, same connector is on the stright and crossover cable.
the only differance on the cross over cable is some of the wires are connected to differant pins

Insert the Windows XP CD in the first computer’s drive.
When the XP Welcome Menu appears, click Perform Additional Tasks.
Click Setup Home Or Small Office Networking and follow the prompts.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for each computer on your network.
