I belive you will need to run a network O/S on the server, or linux will also run good on the server

You can't have too many connections to a desktop OS, you need real server software to be able to serve to that many people, like Win2k server or 2k3 server.

Hey, I have a Sony Vaio and a HP Pavilion run through a router to share internet, the router (a wired or wireless g linksys) says it can be used to network... I've pulled hair out over this thing,
both PC's have identicle operating systems? What am I to do?

2000 Pro and XP Pro can accept 10. 2000 Server and 2003 Server can accept as many as you have licenses for.
