internet gets slower n slower while on net help!

ok when i first connect with dsl then start useing the net its fast..then its gets slower n slower..then it just stops all together...if i restart my computer..its fast at the beginning then gets slower and slower..do i need a new modem? ive had this 1 for about 4 years?

Have you done any malware scans? Malware can slow your computer down and sometimes effect download/upload speeds. What brand modem do you have?

in addition to DBG's comments, are your running any P2P apps on your PC? unless you have limited the max upload/download speeds, as the number of folks who are hitting your PC for content increases, the amount of bandwidth available for your use decreases....when you reboot, you terminate all those P2P sessions, releasing the bandwidth for your use and then the cycle starts all over again...
