Question Dial-up page display question

My friend has a good old dialup connection to the internet using Compuserve. She just cleaned out here computer by deleted unused programs and ran Ad-aware. Now, she then dials up and connects to the internet but is getting a "page cannot be displayed" for everything. Its strange b/c she is connected but the browser does not show the pages or anything. Any suggestions on what might be causing this and how to fix this?

What version of Compuserve?

My parents still use it on their machine, and this type of thing happens all the time. Since the software hasn't been updated in litterally years, I would highly suggest that she switch to another provider. CS simply isn't reliable.

I'm not exactly sure what version it is. It just seemed strange that this has never happened before but after she ran Ad-Aware and removed like 500 things it doesn't work now... Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Cool... I just have one more quick thing before I try using the tool(s) you guys gave me. A buddy of mine suggested that I use Microsoft AntiSpyware's Browser Restore. If that doesn't work then he suggested I use a Reg Healer and that should correct the problem.

Do you think I should try those out before using Winsockxpfix b/c the info says to use this as a last resort.

Unless I am mistaken, browser restore will only restore IE - not CS. I'm not sure you want the AS touching CS... that could lead to some serious problems.

BUT:
You can run it, Spybot, Adaware, and Trendmicro's housecall to make sure the system is clean. You should probably clean it before running the WinSock fix - but you will probably still have to use it.

Ok... It looks like I am gonna have to use the Winsockxpfix or lspfix that you recommended. Which one should I try first or does it matter at all?
