im looking at getting a 16 port switch for my home network. currently i have 6 devices plugged in and im gonna be adding 4-5 more pc's/gaming consoles in the next couple of months. i would like to a 1000Mbps switch but dont feel like spending that much money on it. i was looking a a 16 port 10/100 switch and found these four:
SMC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833129018 Netgear http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833122122 Linksys http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817201105 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124028 i was leaning toward the SMC because of the 4mb buffer. do you guys agree that the SMC is the best option or should i got with one of the other brands? there will be streaming dvds going on to pcs, onling gaming both with pc's and with game consoles xbox, browsing the net, file sharing, now they wont be all going on at the same time, but every now and then im sure 2 or three will be going through this switch. any help or suggestions would be helpful. looking to keep the price tag around $60-$80. also can anybody recommend any good cat 5e or cat 6 cable to get from newegg. i was looking at the generic brand, specifically a 1000ft spool, and make my own cable lengths: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812117536 is this a good spool of wire? thnx in advance

You can get your cable, tips, tools, jacks, etc. at Home Depot.
I really don't see much of a difference in any name brand consumer grade switch. |
