I'm trying to test an ISA 56k USRobotics modem through my phone line line and all I get is that it can't detect a dial tone. I can't remember the last time I tried to use dial-up here. We have added digital phone service through our cable provider. Forgive the noob question but would this interfere with the modem trying to detect a dial tone or to dial out period. I'll probably try switching another to see if it's the modem or a bad connection. Thanks.

Is the digital phone service actually DSL? If so, then the dial-up modem won't work.

Digital phone service from your "cable" provider? Do you mean "Vonage" service? DSL is from the phone company, and cable modem service is from the cable company. Also, DSL and cable madems connect to different types of modems as well. Either way, you won't be able to use a regular modem.

If you can plug a standard phone into the jack and it works, you can use a standard modem. If they are digital phones, nope, unless the phone or phone system has an analog data port.
