Router Issues

I just hooked up my router which is a Linksys WRT54GS and am having problems. I went through the sticky, but I can't seem to get my Notebook PC to connect.

When I hooked it up, I was able to connect, but was not secure. So I enable the WPA-PSK and set my key. When I refresh the wireless network list on my labtop my router shows up as locked. So when I attempt to connect it takes a while to detect the network type then I get the following message:

"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer me in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again."

I refresh again, and the server is still in the list. I can't seem to connect at all to even get the password screen.

Ok, I disabled then reenabled the WPA. Now when I attempt to connect with the Labtop I am able to enter the key. BUT it's not accepting the key I have set. It now says:
"The network passsword needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters"

Does anyone have a clue what is going on?

EDIT: I decided to try my router password when it asks for the key, instead of the key. It seems to accept is since it is attempting to connect to the network. But it just sits trying to connect then gives up.

Are you sure the notebook adapter is WPA-PSK capable? It sounds like it's only WEP-capable if you are getting that prompt.

if you have mac filtering turned on then turn it off until you get it connected to the internet.
sounds like you have wep enabled not WPA-PSK like GLC says.
if trying to use WPA-PSK use AES for the alogorithm on both the router and wireless network card on your pc. double check your SSID and retype your password on both the router and wireless Network card. if you still can get it to work then do a hard reset on the router and start over.
