I have to make a correction: I'm on a 5000kbps down and 500kbps up, it was only a 3000kbps/300kbps a few months ago. I guess we got an upgrade

Using Adelphia cable here in southern California.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 4565 kbps (570.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 433 kbps (54.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Seems about the same speed as most members.

ran it at the office...

16097kbps (2012KB/sec) down
1066kbps (133KB/sec) up

(we cap upload speeds to discourage, shall we say, unauthorized P2P applications)

we have a couple of t3's onto our campus...and we heavily rate limit employee inet access and this time of day inet access is at the lowest speed...

not to brag, but this is just our inet access, our private WAN access is significantly higher for telephony and other internal/private data transfers

thats why routers are such a scam, I don't think there are any services available that take anywhere close to the full capacity of the router.

A scam? Why are they a scam? Sure no internet connection available today can take advantage of gigabit ethernet but if you have gigabit ethernet on all your PC's then you can have a high speed home network.

because you can buy a $100 router, i have even seen $200, yet they are no better than the basic $30 because the internet connection still cant fill up the whole pipe of the router.

Thats not the point of a fast router for a home user, they are made like that so that if you have all your PC's with gigabit ethernet cards, then you can wire them together with a gigabit router, and have a extremely fast home network for networked storage or streaming video etc.

They are keeping the upload speeds low on purpose to discourage the use of servers on residential connections. To get fast uploads you have to buy a business plan.

no, they are probably correct. Remember each site may have its own route from you to the servers and depending upon who you pass thru and their speeds, your mileage may vary wildly.

I have a very fast pipe and my speeds can range by a very wide margin (ie 28,964k down/14,185 up from DC to 6,480 down/3095 up from Seattle) depending upon location

Comcast is now advertising some kind of booster - I don't know what this is all about because I don't have any details, but this may be giving some strange downstream readings.

I have comcast too. I see at dslreports website on there speed tests that there are many comcast users who tested 4 or 5 times higher then me, something called 'powerboost'
Doesnt look like I'm getting it in my area, I pay for 8000/768 and looks like thats what I'm getting from the test
