Don't hate me

Download Speed: 5170 kbps (646.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 712 kbps (89 KB/sec transfer rate)

And my wife was pounding the connection with a download on her computer while I run this.

I like this test so much, I might be making this a sticky thread. Or using it in part of a sticky thread. I don't want to stick too much, so Might try to combine some this weekend and include this.

I am in the same boat, in fact one even worse than the boat you're in David. My down is 1200 something, but as long as a page loads in an appropriate amount of time, and it does, I am fine with it. The only place where Byte's speed comes is in downloading huge files and stuff, even then, can servers give it to you that fast anyway?

i have thought about that myself. to be able to download at 600KB/s that means the server has to be able to UPLOAD at that speed or even more! what kind of connection do they use??

I found my speed surprising. Im on a wireless network and my connection hovers around 75% wireless strength

I am wired in to Comcast.

Other areas the speed is useful. Large files and yes, most servers can provide it at these speeds.

However, I have a network setup for my wife and I. So when that speed it used on the network, there does not appear to be any real lag, unless one of us is FTPing (uploading). I have had our connection down to a crawl just be uploading files to webservers.

my bad i saw u had comcast in ur sig. i have comcast too here. I can NEVER go back to 56k. 4 laptops/2 desktops....56k would mean world war III in this house. Some of the people i know live right near "hubs" or somethin from comcast, and they get REALLY fast connections, maybe not as high as yours. I guess mine would be a little faster on wired, not quite up to yours though. Im at 72% now on a wireless "G" network. this new card is much faster then my old "B" one. but i still think im nowhere near you? how come your so much faster?

i have been using this speedtest site for a while now, they just recently changed the main speedtest page. i to have comcast and paying for the 4mbps service:
Download Speed: 4166 kbps (520.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 340 kbps (42.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

this is on a wireless connection right now. speeds the same for my wired connection. for a long time i was always stuck with download speeds around the 2.2mbps mark only on my wireless connection. my wired connection would always get the right speed results. at first i thought it was my wireless router that was crapping out so i purchased another one. well that didnt solve the problem, so then i thought it was my wireless card in my pc, but then i realized that my roommates laptop was getting the same results. so i started researching and i found the utility called DR. TCP. i installed it followed the directions and now i get the speed im paying for both my wireless and wired connection. i also have WPA on for my encryption.

looks like Byte 2.0 is paying for the 6mbps service with comcast.

here is the link for the Dr. TCP utility
http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

heres the link to set it up properly
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/578

Muskie i see you kind of experiencing the same problems that i did with my wireless. give the DR. TCP a try

Using what? Something in the fiber optic realm? Maybe one of these?

I think I will get one, they start out at $7,500 a month. I think I have seen as much as $300,000 a month for an OC-192 line. Some provides won't even give you a quote.

1277/380 on Telus 1.5mbps DSL. I like the test, but I do not like that fact that it is run by an ISP.

I just looked up your IP address using my magical moderator powers - with your ISP, that's totally believable. They have always advertised a big pipe.
