WinXP keeps rebooting after Intrenal modem installation
Guys
I am experiencing a strange problem. Today i installed an internal modem ( conexant) and after working for a couple of minutes the computer disconnected itself. I tried redialing but immediately i did that it rebooted. I uninstalled the modem and i get the same result Any advice how i can rectify this problem? |

Turn off the "Reboot on error" feature in XP and next time it will throw a BSOD at you. The error code and paremeters can be looked up at the M$ Knowledge Base. Sounds to me like a driver problem, even though the computer reboots when the modem is uninstalled.

Were is this feature located "Turn off the "Reboot on error" feature in XP". I just reinstalled it on another slot it seems to have stopped. Am thinking of observing it for a while otherwise i will just download new drivers.

Lol, that was the next thing I thought of as soon as I posted. It doesn't work in the first slot you tried because of the IRQ. Keep it in the slot that works for it. To turn of "Restart on error" in XP, right-click My Computer>Properties> Hardware(I think)>Performance and Maintenance.

Close DBG. Right click My Computer>properties>Advanced tab>Settings button under Startup and Recovery>uncheck the box for Auto Restart under System Failure.
Did you by chance install the modem in the pci slot next to the video card (AGP)? If so, that can cause IRQ conflicts and lead to some weird problems.
