Fighting Spam with the Blue Frog
The Blue Frog is a small software agent running on your machine and fights spam. It's not a filter but rather a tool allowing users to automatically complain at sites advertised by spam in an attempt to make spammers wish they would have never sent you spam.
The service is free during the Beta period and people registering now will continue to enjoy this service for free in the future. The system is very simple and makes a lot of sense, although it takes some tome getting used to; When you sign up, you add up to 3 email addresses to an encrypted registry of protected email addresses and download the Blue Frog. You can send spam you receive to Blue Security (www.bluesecurity.com) and they analyze it and create a script the Frog uses to post its complaints on the Web site advertised in the spam messages people receive. The idea is that spammers and direct marketers can download the registry and use tools provided by Blue Security to clean their lists from the email address appearing in the registry in order to avoid receiving so many complaints. The company says it will take time until users will see a significant decrease in spam, but I saw almost 90% less spam since I joined in 4 weeks ago, and many users report the same. What I really like is the fact that I can actually do something about spam rather than sit down and wait for it to arrive. BTW Most users would do almost anything to get rid of spam and get even with spammers, but Blue Security argues that they limit the amount of complaints to the number of spam messages reported by their customers. Their site includes experts quoted saying their system is ethical and I tend to agree. Anyway, if you really want to do something about spam - you should sign up, download the cute little frog and even if it will take a while before you see any results, at least you know you tried
