Unable to add client PC to domain
Hi all
just setting up a test domain at home with win2003 server SP1, got the domain up and running using standard 192.168.1.10 for server and restricting DHCP to 192.168.1.15 to 20. Created a couple of user accounts and groups and all logons etc working ok. Problem is trying to add a client PC to the domain, i type in the domain name and up pops the box for authentication and on entering the domain admin username and password i get an error box stating the domain is not available. i can ping the server but the server cannot ping the PC. Firewall have been disabled and i am using the servers IP as the preferred DNS server. i am not intending to connect to the internet this is purely to practice my skills learnt from work. Doug |

Are you typing the domain admin name in the following format?
domainname\administrator |

Hi GLC
yes i have tried both ways i.e. with and without domain name, i have managed to get both the server and PC to ping one another with the PC picking up the first IP address in the scope. Do you think that this could be a DNS problem as i am using the server IP as the preferred DNS address, what if i just leave this blank? |

Do you have any other clients connected or is this the first one?
Try connecting to the server in a workgroup environment instead of a domain. Also, when you setup your domain, was it setup as domain.local? |
